Master's Degree

The Department of Music offers a Master of Music degree, with a variety of emphases in the areas of performance, conducting, and music education. Within the area of conducting, students may select a choral emphasis. This degree is designed to prepare individuals for professional advancement or for entry into further study at the doctoral level.  

Awards for graduate assistantships are available on a competitive basis. Recipients of these awards will assist with teaching as well as the administration of ensembles or other areas of the program.

In addition to work done in the classroom and studio, students in the choral conducting emphasis at Pittsburg State have many opportunities for supervised hands-on rehearsal time with PSU ensembles as part of their training. The final component in the program is the preparation of a full recital. This preparation includes the research and selection of all repertoire, followed by rehearsal with a choral ensemble over the course of several months.

This program has the flexibility to meet the needs of conductors who plan to work with ensembles of various types: community choirs, church choirs, or school choirs at any level.

About Music Department


The Department of Music at Pittsburg State University is an accredited member of NASM, the National Association of Schools of Music.
