Overview

Physicians assistants play a vital role in the constantly changing healthcare industry. Often serving as a patient's principal healthcare provider, physician assistants are prepared to diagnose illnesses, manage treatment plans, and prescribe medications. Physician assistants practice in every state and in every medical setting and specialty, improving healthcare access and quality.

Pitt State students pursuing an emphasis in pre-physician assistant will be prepared to advance to a graduate level physician assistant program. Most physician assistant programs require a college degree and some health-related work experience. The Pittsburg State University Pre-Physician Assistant emphasis includes a mix of biology, chemistry, and physics coursework.
